I like making this as a quick snack. A very simple Swiss recipe:
1/4 cup butter
12 ounces French bread, sliced into little 1 inch pieces (any kind of white bread will do)
3 granny smith apples peeled, cored and sliced
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon/sugar, if desired
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium high heat.
Lightly brown the bread in the butter.
Stir apples and sugar into pan.
Reduce heat to medium low, cover and cook until apples are fairly soft.
